Here's how I currently allocate my credit card spending each month:
DBS Yuu Visa
Here's the fastest way to earn 6,000 miles: I consistently pay my family's entire Singtel bill of S$600 every month at the Singtel Self-Service Kiosk. You can overpay your bill by up to double the due amount, which helps me hit exactly $600. While all kiosks accept Visa, not all accept AMEX. Some kiosks are often under repair, so I recommend checking the Telegram group for kiosk availability before heading out. Check out the nearest singtel kiosk over here.
I'll clock all my food and travel bookings here. Unless I am doing a big travel booking, the $2k cap is more then sufficient to cover my dining out expenses for the month. If I can, I try to space out my travel booking to make sure i can clock as much 6mpd as possible.
Unless I anticipate that I won’t hit S$1K for the month (e.g., due to travel), my default strategy is to use VS first before switching to PPV. This helps me avoid a situation where I max out PPV’s S$1K cap, only to realize I have only a few hundred dollars of spending left—making it difficult to meet VS’s S$1K minimum spend. Since maximizing bonus spend across both VS categories can be challenging, I stick to just one. For example, if I plan to use VS for overseas transactions, I’ll avoid using it for local contactless spend for that month.
All my internet subscriptions (Netflix, YouTube Premium, Spotify, etc.) are already charged to this card. I’ll continue using it for food deliveries and PHV rides. For larger purchases, if BNPL platforms like Atome is available, I’ll almost always opt for it. BNPL platforms let me split big purchases into smaller monthly payments, allowing me to earn 4 mpd on the full amount while spreading out the cap.
However, I’ve seen data points from the Singaporean miles community about missing bonus points on the 2nd BNPL payments onwards. To avoid this, I recommend manually triggering payments each month instead of relying on automatic deductions.
I don’t use this card frequently, but it comes in handy in certain situations. On high-spending months where I’ve already maxed out my VS and PPV caps, CRMC serves as my 4mpd spillover option. It’s also useful for short trips to Malaysia, where I may not hit the S$1K spend requirement on VS but still want to earn miles.
That said, I’m not a big fan of this card since the points don’t pool. I’ve been considering cancelling it to reset my new-to-bank status.
HSBC Revolution (Revo)
With all the nerfs in 2024, I’ve been using this card exclusively for online shopping (e.g., Lazada, Shopee, Amazon) when I’ve maxed out my WWMC cap or want to reserve it for other spending.
Given the KrisFlyer devaluation, I did seriously considered canceling this card to reset my new-to-bank status. However, HSBC offers a wide range of transfer partners, including Aeroplan and EVA Air, where you can redeem the same SQ flights for fewer miles. Since I’ve been accumulating a decent balance of HeyMax miles, I’m now thinking I need this card more than ever to ensure I hit the critical mass of miles for an alternative FFP.
OCBC Rewards
I am using this card exclusively for online shopping and buying vouchers on HeyMax, which allows me to earn 6mpd since they’re coded as 5311 (department stores). How long this 6mpd will last is anyone’s guess, but the current terms and conditions have it running until June 2025.
UOB KrisFlyer Credit Card (KFCC)
It’s a good problem, and I’m not complaining when it happens. Sometimes, I max out all the cards mentioned above—maybe because family is in town, and everyone is swiping my card left and right. Or perhaps I’m booking big travel plans for the whole family, which can quickly soak up my WWMC or UOB LS cap. Maybe a relative asks me to book some SQ/Scoot flights, and the 3 miles per dollar (3mpd) offer (by next month) is just too attractive to pass up.
When everything else falls short, the KFCC is my ultimate reliable backup card. With 3mpd across multiple bonus categories, it’s essentially a catch-all card for me.
