Fast Track to KrisFlyer Elite Gold with AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend – is it "worth it"?
From 1 Feb to 31 July 2025, AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend cardholders can fast-track to KrisFlyer Elite Gold by spending S$16,000, which must include S$6,000 on Singapore Airlines or Scoot tickets. While this is "easier" than the usual S$15,000 spend on SIA alone, it’s still a higher threshold than 2024’s (S$12,500 total, S$2,500 on SIA).
The flight tickets don’t need to be flown by the cardholder. For example, a person buying tickets for family/friends/anyone really can still earn Elite Gold through this spending, though only the named passenger accrues Elite miles.
Promotion Summary
Registration is not required
Open to all AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend cardholders, except those who are Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold members as of 1 August 2025
Previous KrisFlyer Elite Gold fast-track participants are still eligible
S$6,000 on Singapore Airlines/Scoot flights must be in SGD, with flights originating from Singapore (though this may not be strictly enforced)
Paying taxes or surcharges on Singapore Airlines or partner award tickets counts toward the S$6,000 if booked on their site/app
The S$16,000 spend can include any retail purchases (excluding the usual AMEX exclusions)
Eligible cardholders will be notified by KrisFlyer by 31 October 2025
KrisFlyer Elite Gold status lasts 12 months, after which requalification via regular methods (50,000 Elite miles) is required.
Recap: KrisFlyer Elite Gold benefits
For many, KrisFlyer Elite Gold is the highest attainable status, as the PPS Club is reserved for those flying First or Business Class on paid tickets.
Key Benefits Summary:
50% Mileage Bonus
Free Seat Selection (Forward Zone or Standard in Economy Class, SQ/Scoot only)
Priority Check-in, Boarding, and Baggage on all Star Alliance flights
Lounge Access with a guest (when flying Star Alliance)
Some basic Scoot perks (not exceptional)
Conclusion - is it "worth it"?
Ignoring the opportunity cost of earning just 1.2/2 mpd with the AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend instead of 4-6 mpd alternatives, the real question is: Do you fly Economy or Premium Economy often enough on Singapore Airlines or Star Alliance partners to benefit from perks like Priority check-in, lounge access, extra baggage? If so, this fast track is the only way to get KrisFlyer Elite Gold without flying.
