Review: Chocolate Finance Visa

MileWise Card Rating (1-4)

1️⃣ Core Card to Use 🔥

2️⃣ Use Only When There Is a Promotion 🎯

3️⃣ Apply Only for Sign-Up Bonus (SUB) 💰

4️⃣ Don't Bother Applying 🚫

MileWise Commentary: With 2 miles per dollar (mpd) on almost all purchases, this is a fantastic choice for anyone who pays income tax. Even after bursting the S$1k cap, I consider 0.4 mpd as incremental miles (as opposed to getting nothing on your income taxes).

The best part? Max Miles never expire and can be transferred to up to 27 airline and hotel loyalty programs. If this doesn’t qualify as "free" miles, I’m not sure what does. That said, it’s worth keeping in mind that that the current earn rate is probably not sustainable*, and could be scaled back when they hit the customer acquisiton goals/ run out of marketing budget.

*Transactions like AXS are widely recognized for having minimal to no card fees for card networks. As a result, financial institutions typically avoid offering miles or rewards on these types of transactions, as they provide little to no revenue for them.

Card Summary

  • 2 Max Miles per S$1 on the first S$1,000 of spend per calendar month

  • 0.4 Max Miles per S$1 on all spend above S$1,000 per calendar month

  • No foreign currency fees, making it ideal for overseas spending.

  • Biggest selling point: No exclusions on donations, education, hospitals, insurance premiums, utilities, and AXS transactions (allowing you to pay goverment bills, including income tax)

  • Only exclusions: Money transfers or prepaid account top-ups (e.g. GrabPay, YouTrip).

  • This is a debit card, which means also need to fund your account before spending. You will earn:

    • 3.3% p.a. on the first S$20,000 (guaranteed)

    • 3% p.a. on the next S$30,000 (guaranteed)

    • 3% p.a. on any amount above that (non-guaranteed)
