2025 Card Review: AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card

2025 Card Review: AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card
The card that won’t die – and that’s actually a good thing?

Let’s get one thing straight: this card has never been a miles-earning powerhouse. In fact, if earning rates were a sport, this card would be the kid picked last. But somehow, against all odds, it survives.

AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card: MileWise Card Rating for 2025

☐ Core Card to Use 🔥

☐ Use Only When There Is a Promotion 🎯

☑ Apply Only for Sign-Up Bonus (SUB) 💰

☐ Don't Bother Applying 🚫

MileWise Commentary: As of writing, it is offering 17K miles with a minimum spend of S$1,000 within the first month of card approval if you are new to American Express. With no annual fees, if this isn’t free miles, I don't know what is. The SUB alone should motivate you to sign up and get those free miles, but is there a future beyond SUB?

When AMEX “enhanced” its Singapore Airlines co-brand cards in November 2024 (a move that absolutely torched the KrisFlyer Ascend), the AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card stood in the corner, whistling nonchalantly, completely unbothered. You can’t nerf what’s already at rock bottom!

In a bizarre turn of events, this card is now the default option for those who want AMEX Offers and QR-code miles without an annual fee. It’s the cockroach of the miles world—resilient, mildly useful, and mostly ignored until there’s a SUB.

Key Features of AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card

  • 1.1 miles per S$1 on local spend

  • 1.1 miles per S$1 on foreign currency (FCY) spend (which is a bad deal, trust me)

  • 2 miles per S$1 on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and KrisShop (but you could easily do better with another card)

  • 2 miles per S$1 on Grab, capped at S$200 per month (used to be 3.1 miles, but who’s counting? Oh, right. We are.)

  • AMEX Pay lets you earn miles at QR-code-only merchants, like hawker stalls and wet markets. Yes, earning miles everywhere is great, but let’s be real—how much are you really getting from a S$5 bowl of noodles at 1.1 mpd? A whopping 5 miles. You going to need to eat alot more bowls to make it out of Singapore.

  • It’s still free, making it the best “Sign-up and cancel” card in the AMEX lineup.

Who Should Use the AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card?

  • People who love AMEX Offers (seriously, some are good!)

  • Miles Maximizers: Those who refuse to leave miles on the (hawker) table, because every mile counts—after all, a thousand-mile journey starts with one mile.

  • Newbies who think “KrisFlyer” on the card means “best miles rates” (spoiler alert: it doesn’t).

Follow These Tips to Maximise Your Miles from the AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card:

  • Look Out for Sign-Up Bonuses. This card’s best use case is a juicy sign-up bonus

  • Sock Drawer It ASAP – After milking the welcome offer, put this card in hibernation until a good AMEX promo rolls around.

Final Thoughts: Should You Get the AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card?

Look, if you’re serious about earning miles, this card is not the one. But if you love AMEX perks and want an easy, fee-free way to grab some miles in odd situations (QR-code merchants, limited-time promos), it’s worth keeping around. Think of it as that one friend who’s not particularly useful but always fun to have at parties.

So, what do you think? Are you keeping this zombie card in your wallet, or is it time to put it out of its misery? Let me know in the comments/poll!
