2025 Best Credit Cards to use for Supermarkets in Singapore

2025 Best Credit Cards to use for Supermarkets in Singapore
Favourite category to "Stock up": Wines, Household items, Frozen food

Depending on your household size and dining habits, supermarket expenses can either be a major or minor part of your budget. However, grocery shopping is unavoidable, and given how easy it is to stock up on household essentials to meet minimum spend requirements, this is a category that miles chasers should pay close attention to.

How do dining transactions code?

Most, if not all, supermarket transactions will code under MCC 5411: Grocery Stores, Supermarkets.

Given the abundance of alternative cards for this category, I do not recommend using Amaze + Citi Rewards due to the 1% admin fee on all SGD transactions. Additionally, HSBC Revolution is no longer a viable option for supermarket spending, following its May 2024 nerf that removed MCC 5411 from its bonus categories.

Special "HeyMax" workaround

HeyMax offers vouchers for FairPrice, Giant, and Sheng Siong, coding these purchases under MCC 5311: Department Stores. This allows you to earn 6 mpd with the OCBC Rewards Card until 30 June 2025, capped at S$1,000 per calendar month. Effectively, HeyMax lets you reclassify your grocery shopping from MCC 5411 to MCC 5311, making it eligible for rewards with cards that offer bonuses on department store spending.

Additionally, your voucher purchases will earn Max Miles, which can be converted at a 1:1 ratio to 27 airline and hotel partners without any fees.
